Design of Ductile Iron Pipe: This brochure discusses the design basis and important criteria used in the wall thickness design of Ductile Iron pipe. It is based on the ANSI/AWWA C150/A21.50 Standard for the Thickness Design of Ductile Iron Pipe. Complete equations and tables are presented that allow the user to calculate the required wall thickness for given parameters.
Design of Ductile Iron Pipe on Supports: This publication reviews the pertinent design considerations for both aboveground and underground Ductile Iron pipe-on-supports installations. Specific procedures, recommended design limits and allowable stresses are outlined in an example problem. Design tables based on Ductile Iron pipe data and suggested loads are also provided.
Suggested Sample Specification for Ductile Iron Pipe & Fittings for Water and Other Liquids (1 Page Handout): This one page downloadable PDF file outlines a sample specification for Ductile Iron pipe and fittings. The conservative and comprehensive nature of the standards for Ductile Iron pipe, covering topics such as manufacturing, design, joints, fittings, and installation, make this simple approach possible.
Thrust Restraint Design for Ductile Iron Pipe: Balancing thrust forces in underground pipelines is usually accomplished with bearing or gravity thrust blocks or restrained joint systems. This technical brochure provides a general discussion of the nature of thrust forces as well as suggested approaches to the design of both thrust block and restrained joint systems. Tables are provided to simplify many of the required calculations.
Truck Loads on Pipe Buried at Shallow Depths: The procedure for calculating truck loads on buried Ductile Iron pipe is provided in the ANSI/AWWA C150/A21.50 Standard for the Thickness Design of Ductile Iron Pipe. This publication discusses the special considerations that may be required for depths of cover less than 2.5 feet, and provides tables for shallow depths of cover (1 ft. to 2 ft.) similar to those found in the referenced standard for depths of cover of 2.5 feet or more.
